Trope (n) - a significant or recurrent theme; a motif
Troper (pronounced troh-per) is a nonsense word meaning one who uses a trope.
This piece started as a composition exercise to get as much use as possible out of a simple 6 note motif (the trope), and for better or worse you’ll know it well by the time you hit the coda. This version of the tune was written for the 2011-20122 University of Illinois Jazz Trombone Ensemble, winners the 2012 International Trombone Association’s Kai Winding Jazz Trombone Ensemble Competition. This is a technically demanding chart suitable for advanced college and professional ensembles - I find the melody of Troper challenging to play, which is part of why I wrote it.
Limited edits are available as part of the purchase price, though I retain full discretion over whether the edits are significant enough to constitute a rewrite or are too much of change from the original.
